So we all hated GOT S8 but now that 2020 is gone and a new year of the pandemic is here, emotions have subsided. It’s not like we’re loving S8 (lol), but we are now appreciating the show that came before the disastrous finale. It was fun, endearing, well made, gripping, and frankly a world to get lost in. And now that everyone is looking for a world to get lost in, the world around the upcoming GOT prequel has suddenly lit up, bringing us a new update along with it!

GOT Prequel update

The House of Dragon is an upcoming prequel set around 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones. The prequel will focus on House Targaryen and their rise and fall from power. Eve Best, Paddy Considine, and Sonoyo Mizuno were already among the cast. Eve Best is set to play Rhaenys Velaryon, Paddy is set to play Viserys Targaryen and Sonoyo Mizuno is set to play Mysaria.

GOT Prequel update

We now have a new update from the GOT prequel which confirms the new additions to the cast that includes; Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, and Emma D’Arcy.

GOT Prequel update

Olivia Cooke is set to play Alicent Hightower, who is the daughter of Otto Hightower, who happens to be the Hand of the King for the Targaryens. Olivia’s character is described as following…

the most comely woman in the Seven Kingdoms, [she has] courtly grace and a keen political acumen.

It seems to be a great year for Olivia’s career as she has several other upcoming projects lined up for 2021 including ‘Pixie’ and the sci-fi movie ‘Little Fish’. She is accompanied by Alec Baldwin in Pixie and Jack O’Connell in Little Fish. Additionally, she will also be appearing in ‘Naked Singularity’ this year.

Emma D’Arcy on the other hand has been cast in the role of Rhaenyra Targaryen, who is a pure-blood Valyrian bound to her fate as a dragon rider. An update on the character from one of the books, states the following about her…

born with everything… but she was not born a man.

Similarly, Matt Smith has been cast in the role of Daemon Targaryen, who is the younger brother to King Viserys and supposedly the heir to the Targaryen throne (lol so basically Ned Stark). His character gets this snippet of description in the books…

peerless warrior and a dragonrider, Daemon possesses the true blood of the dragon. But it is said that whenever a Targaryen is born, the gods toss a coin in the air…

woooowwwww

The House of Dragon has been greenlit by HBO with a current order of 10 initial episodes. Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan Condal will be spearheading the show and will also act as EPs on the project.
